I am a social journalist

Out of a decade of researching and reporting on social issues during my professional training, I worked out that I want to use the media to break down barriers and to include the excluded. The current manifestation of that is  Technical Difficulties.

At present, my funding comes predominantly from work monitoring and summarising media content for a number of corporations but it is core to my ethical code that I do not report on companies or sectors for which I am paid to summarise.

My ultimate aim is to secure a funding stream which recognises the value of journalism as public oversight and therefore can redress the costs of producing such work. However, I see this aim as more important than anything else and will not sacrifice my integrity to get there.

The work that I produce is produced using equipment either borrowed from the non-profit radio station Resonance FM or paid for out of my private funds.

My desire is to build and maintain a reputation as a professional operator with a public service ethos. I specialise in the exploration of social inequality, particularly with regard to disability. And I see my work as important for helping close those gaps.

Do you know any organisations that can offer assistance and/or funding for this purpose? So far I have only found US foundations whose criteria limit them to funding US operators.

I am a UK citizen.
