 Why Light Chronicles? |
This site was originally known by the rather plain vanilla "Chronicles of Timothy Abbott".
Why Chronicles? Well... These are the Chronicles of Timothy Abbott because of a conscious effort to avoid the pitfalls and pigeon-holes of public perception of my art. To take my degree at face value, I am a bachelor of this art. And any art should not be dismissed on the basis of specific experience.
Why the references to light?
I think there are always areas of darkness that need some illumination and explanation and I have always seen shedding light an aim of my art. I spend half my life awake at night and some of the brightest insight has come in those quiet hours. Every night needs a night light at least.
On my desk I have a lighthouse manufactured by a workforce of people with intellectual disabilities in the northern German city of Bremen. At their annual parade, the Freimaakumzug (or 'procession of the freedom to trade'), one of the groups was marked by a banner of that same lighthouse - the group were "Nordlichtern", or the Northern Lights. The expression is also used in German to describe the Aurora Borealis. I also like the symmetry, having grown up in the northern English countryside. |
